What does ARFID behavior look like?
The most common behaviors of someone with Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder:
Small list of safe foods
Inability to ‘try’ new foods
Lots of food rules; specific brands & packaging, foods not touching, etc.
Prolonged disinterest in eating food (low hunger signals)
Health deteriorating due to restrictive food intake
Oversensitivity to food smells, tastes and textures
Sometimes may want to eat new food, but just can’t
Take own food on vacations, camps, etc
Unpredictable behavior around food
Difficutly eating food with family, friends, at social events and work
Eating very slowly
Food jagging (sudden refusal to eat foods previously eaten)
